The Allotmenteer

Peter Jones

As some of you may be aware our oldest allotmenteer Peter Jones sadly passed away on Saturday 11th May. Peter joined Bells Hill Allotments in 1971 and had his plot for 52 years. Pete was a fantastic character, he was funny, always willing to help and pass on his advice and had an opinion on everything.  Pete's plot always had a spectacular display of flowers and colour. He will be very much missed.

To celebrate Pete and his love for flowers his plot has been made into a rose garden for everyone to enjoy.

New Gates and Hut Door

December 2023. The new gates have arrived and been installed, replacing the gates that were damaged earlier this year. The new gates are far sturdier and more secure than the previous ones.

In addition to the installation of the new gates we have installed an additional set of doors to the hut. The new doors are in the back of the hut and allow direct access to the communal area next to the hut. A big thanks to Andy and Steve who undertook all of the heavy work in preparation for the installation.

Volunteer Days

Throughout the year we have run a number of volunteer days. It has been great to see so many of our allotmenteers turning up to support these days. We have achieved a great deal of work throughout the year. This included supporting the charity plots, creating a new plot holder started bed area and clearing the car parks of the unusable compost.

Seed Swap

In May we held a seed swap day. It was a great to see so many of you turn up and make the day special. It highlights what a great sense of community we have within BHAS. The day was a great success and raised £230 for our charities.

 Eleanor Palmer Trust

In May 2023 the entrance plot was allocated to Eleanor Palmer Trust. EPT are a charity that provide care homes and services that support the elderly. The area has now been completed and has had a number of high quality easy access beds built as well as a summer house for the EPT patrons to enjoy.
